Rod Schoonover is the founder and CEO of the Ecological Futures Group and an internationally recognized expert on global ecological disruption, climate change, and their impacts on national and global security. From 2009 to 2019, Dr. Schoonover was the Senior Scientist in the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research where he oversaw the portfolio on Environment and Science & Technology issues, in particular the national security implications of climate change, ecological change, water security, strategic minerals, wildlife trafficking, emergent and disruptive technology, and space security. During an intervening tour from 2016-2018, he served as the Director of Environment and Natural Resources at the National Intelligence Council in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. His passion for scientific integrity and evidence-driven, apolitical analysis compelled him to resign from the Trump administration in July 2019.
